    Mentioned in documents of Stellenbosch in 1690.
    Referred to in documents as Jean le Roes (sometimes Jean Roes) de Normandie. He signed his name Jean Leroux (sometimes Leroex). Landed at the Cape between Oct. 1688 and May 1689. In 1692 the farm "Vlakkeland" in Daljosafat was allocated to him and in 1694 it was registered in his name.
    Du Plooy.paf: Dit word algemeen aanvaar dat hy van Normandie afkomstig was, veral omdat in dokumente na hom verwys word as Jean le Roes (soms Jean Roes) de Normandie. Self teken hy as Jean Leroux (soms Leroex). Hy het tussen Oktober 1688 en Mei 1689 aan die Kaap geland. In 1692 word die plaas Vlakkeland in Daljosafat aan hom toegesê en in 1694 kry hy oordrag van die grond.
    In 1700 trou hy met Marie de Haas (eintlik le Lievre), die oudste dogter van 'n gesin wat vroeër dieselfde jaar van Ryssel in Frans-Vlaandere na die Kaap gekom het. Sy plaas Vlakkeland dra hy in 1704 oor aan sy skoonvader Guillaume de Haas. Terwyl sy gesin op Vlakkeland bly woon, begin hy 'n transportbesigheid en verkry vir die doel 'n besigheidsperseel in Kaapstad en 'n stuk grond naby Kuilsrivier as weiding vir sy trekdiere.
    Na sy aftrede in 1723 gaan woon hy en sy gesin op Welgevallen by Stellenbosch waar Marie in 1751 en Jean in 1752 oorlede is.
    Possibly married abt 1701 to unknown wife and had 5 children then married Maria De Haas in abt 1710.

Hy was gevestig in 1692 te Het Vlakkeland, Daljosafat, en later (1721) Langverwacht, Stellenbosch. Hy het 12 kinders nagelaat:

    Data re Sigmund Geldenhuis shows birthdate as 1691 in Proussy Calvados France. Harvey records shows birthdate as 1690 and " of Ryssel" which is in Holland. Hugenots fled to Holland and other countries prior to emigrating so both of above, except the birthdates are probably correct. Due to birthdate of eldest child Maria's birthdate is shown as abt 1685.
