    He arrived in the Cape in 1688 from Amsterdam on the ship "De Schelde", which left for the Cape on 19 Feb 1688 and was anchored in Table Bay on 29 May 1688. He was accompanied by his wife, Marie, and 3 children: Abraham, Anne and Elisabeth. The family finally disembarked on Sunday 5 Jun 1688. His son, Jacob, was born on board the ship during this time.
