    Joost Strijdom is sedert 1686 in die monsterrolle van die VOC aan die Kaap de Goede Hoop te vind. Hy was 'n skoenmaker, getroud met Maryna Ras , =23.6.1669 (Kaapstad), dogter van Hans Ras, van Angeln, en Catharina Ustinx, die histories bekende Trijn Ras, uit Denemarke. Op 11 November 1714 tree hy weer in die huwelik met Susanna Groen, weduwee van Jacobus Steen. Joost se afkoms is onbekend, en deur sy assosiasie met die Nederlandse bevolking aan die Kaap (deur byvoorbeeld getuie te wees by die doop van 'n kind van die Steyn stamvader) word hy beskou as van Nederlandse afkoms. Die van (en variante) word egter nie in 17e en 18e eeuse Nederland, Vlaandere, Duitsland, of Frankryk aangetref nie. Verwante name uit Poland dui op 'n moontlike Poolse oorsprong, soos byvoorbeeld as vlugteling uit die 17e eeuse anti-Joodse pogromme in Poland.

    Joost en Maryna het vyf kinders aan die Kaap gedoop wie dan die eerste geslag Strydoms aan die Kaap vorm, en nageslagte uit twee, Matthys, b3, en Johannes, b4, is bekend. Hulle is die vaders van die Matthys en Johannes-takke van die Strydom stamboom.

    Stamvader Coenraad Scheepers (a1) van Gelderland (nie Rotterdam nie, volgens sy testament in 1723 gemaak) arriveer met sy vrou Teuntje Gysberts en sy seun Jacob in die Kaap in 1699 of 1700, want hy word nie gelys in die 1699 sensus nie, terwyl sy tweede seun Gerrit gedoop word aan die Kaap op 5 September 1700. Na Teuntje se dood trou hy met Maria Botha (dogter van Friedrich Both, stamvader van die Bothas).

    Sy eerste twee seuns word in ouer bronne foutief aangedui as sy broers, maar J.J. Scheepers het in Familia No.4 1967 gewys daarop dat die doopinskrywing van sy seun Gerrit verwys na die vadersnaam as "Koenrd Jacobsz Scheeper" en die moedersnaam as "Teuntje Gysberts". Verder erf Gerrit saam met sy ouer broer Jacob hulle wetlike deel volgens hul vader se testament, waar hy na hulle verwys as "...aan zijn twee mondige zoonen met namen Jacob en Gerrit Scheepers in zijn vorigh huwelik geteelt..."

    Coenraad was 'n boer in die Drakenstein area so vroeg soos 1702 volgens die opgaafrolle van daardie jaar (wat in die argiewe van die HOIK in Holland bewaar word), en waar na hom verwys word as "Coenraad Jacobse de Schepert" en ook sy vrou Teuntje Gysberts noem. Volgens JJ Scheepers sê Leibbrandt se Precis of Requesten en Memorien 1715-1806, no. 3 van 1723 dat hy op die plaas "De Liefde" op die oewer van die Breede Rivier in dieselfde distrik boer sedert 1706. Dis ongeveer 8 km vanaf Wolseley in die huidige distrik Tulbach en die grond was amptelik aan hom toegeken deur Goewerneur Mauritz Pasques de Chavonnes op 16 Februarie 1723.

    Na sy dood het die plaas "De Liefde" oorgegaan na Jacobus Burger, man van sy dogter Geertruij - aangesien sy seuns Gerrit en Frederik na die Oosgrens van die Kolonie gegaan het.

    Stamvader Coenraad SCHEEPERS was from Gelderland, son of Jacob Scheepers. He arrived in S A in 1699/1700 with his wife Teuntjie GYSBERTS and son Jacob. Coenraad was a farmer and farmed on the farm De Liefde at Drakenstein. He married Maria Botha on 13 March 1712, she was the daughter of Friedrich Botha and Maria Kickers.

Hy het in die Kaap getrou in 1690 met Esther de Ruelle (dogter van Daniel de Ruelle en Anna Goudalleen weer op 19/2/1702 in Stellenbosch met Susanna (Anna) du Puys van Amsterdam, d/v Jean. Hy was gevestig te Rust-en-werk (1694), en later De Uitkyk, Daljosafat, en De Verrekyker, Tulbagh (1712). Hy het 2 seuns en 5 dogters gehad - almal uit sy tweede huwelik.

Verkeerd!Estienne het saam met sy susterskind Philippe Fouche vanaf die Loirevallei in Frankryk gevlug na die Nederlande en vandaar op 31/12/1687 uitgevaar op die Voorschooten na die Kaap de Goede Hoop (die Voorschooten het by Saldanha gestrand en die Hugenote is
    vandaar per die Jupiter na Tafelbaai gebring).

    Arrives in Cape in 1688 as a French Hugenout on the ship "Voorschoten". He was a wagonmaker by trade but in 1692 obtains the farm "Rust de Werk" which is transferred in to his name on 18.8.1694. In 1712 he purchases the farm "De Veerkijker" in Waveren.

    Estienne was the progenitor (stamvader) of the Bruwer family in South Africa. He was a French Huguenot who arrived in the Cape on board the ship "Voorshooten" in 1688 as a 23-year old wagon-maker.
    He settled on the farm "Rust-en-werk" in 1692 - the farm was transferred into his name on 18 Aug 1694. He later had the farm "De Uitkyk" in Daljosafat. In 1712 he bought the farm "De Verrekyker" in Tulbagh.

    Estienne married Susanne DU PUY, b2 on 19 Feb 1702 in Stellenbosch, Cape, South Africa.
