    Van Zutphen in Gelderland. The progenitor is shown in the baptismal and marriage registers as Pieter Christiaens. His wife, Hermina Karels is of unknown heritage and has no connection with the Carelse family(the progenitor of the Carelse family only arrived at the Cape by about 1740). Adriana Gerritsdogter was known under various names.

    Hoewel die naam en geboortedatum van ene Pieter Christiaan de Jager *1640 in Nederland daarop dui dat hy "moontlik" die vader van ons stamvader kan wees, is daar "geen bewyse" hiervoor nie. Volgens navorsing in Nederland gedoen, is daar 'n moontlikeheid dat sy vader Andries de Jager was, maar daaroor is tans ook geen sekerheid nie.
