    He personally signed his name as Jors Hannekoom and Jurgen Hannekom. Arrived at the Cape about 1708 from Rathlosen near Solingen, Germany. Lumberman 1708-1712, in 1713 he was promoted to Corporal, later free burger, lived on the farm "De Natte Valley" between Paarl and Stellenbosch, in 1750 to Cape Town where he submitted his certificate of membership of the Church ("Attestaat") on 9.12.1750.
    Ook gespel Jors Hannekoom en Hannekom van Rathlosen by Sulingen in Hannover, houtkapper 1708- 12, woon later as burger op die plaas "De Natte Valley", Drakenstein.

    Moves to Cape Town in 1750, where he submits his certificate of membership.

    (Research):On 8 December 1660 the Dutch East India Company's Ensign Jan Danckaert saw a sight which was to make a lasting impression on him : in a river valley in the interior there was a herd of about 300 grazing elephants, and for the remainder of his journey of exploration he was to call it the Olifants River. It was however only in 1725 that the first loan farm in the region, Modderfontein, was granted to Jurgens Hanekom.

    He was a widower when he married Cornelia Helmes.

    The inventory of his deceased estate lists a house and garden situated in the Tafelvalleij (today Cape Town) which had been bought in the last two years or so (the last payment was still owing) from Willem van Wijk, valued at 1500 gulden, as well as 300 sheep, three beasts of pulling, half of a wagon, the other half owned by Jan Marschalck, 3 horses (2 ruijns and 1 mare).

    Also a good collection of household furnishings, the total valued at 3000 guldens, not rich, but not badly off, and not too many debts.

    In 1692 she and Jan van den Bos are listed in the muster rolls with three children. All her children are given as listed in her two wills, one made with Arij van Wijk in 1713, the other with Jacob Coetser in 1720. Both wills states that she had eight Van Wijck children and give their names - the earlier will gives their ages as well. The details of her children's spouses and their children come from the Deceased Estate Accounts of her son Willem van Wijk d'oude, accounts dated 1771-72.
