  1. 2.  Willem VAN WIJK, a2 was born before 1655 in Ingen, Nederbetuwe, Wijck Bij Duurstede, Nederland (son of Adriaen Gerritsz VAN WIJK and Jantgen AERTS); died in 1702 in Cape, South Africa.

    Notes:

Arrived about 1676/78 from Engen, Netherlands.
Johan van Deventer's text read, '. . . there are serious errors in the Van Wijck/Wijk/Wyk family tree. Roelof (not even mentioned in dV/P) is a1 and the father of Adrian (Arie) referred to as a2 in dV/P. It is more likely that Roelof and Willem were brothers with the same father but different mothers. Roelof (*abt 1643 in Holland), his wife Trijntje Jans (*abt 1637) and their son Arie van Wijck (~18/1/1655 in Amsterdam) came to SA about 1677. At the same time Willem van Wijck (*bef 1655) also arrived in SA.'
Volgens Pama II van Engen in Nederland afkomstig. Kom omstreeks 1676/78? in die Kaap aan.

http://www.ballfamilyrecords.co.uk/kfp/I225.htmlHe first appears at the Cape as a Company servant, working in the Company's Garden in 1672. By 1678 he was a free burger, working in partnership with Gerrit Teunisz and later with Hans Erntrout. (see my timeline for Willem van Wijk).
Two children by his first wife are recorded in the baptismal registers of the Cape Town congregation; Arie and Jannetie. The inventory taken after the death of his first wife, dated the 10th March 1695, notes that she left two minor children. Theseare named in the Weeskamer record dated 2 September 1712 as Arij and Gerrit van Wijk, so presumably Jannetie had died before 1695.
The children born of his second marriage are also listed in the 1712 Weeskamer note mentioned above, as Maria, Anna and Willem van Wijk.
For his wives and children see my notes on Trijntje Harmensz, his second wife, and for a general discussion of the early Van Wijks see my notes.
Willem van Wijk of Sandwijk, in Drakensteijn died 1702, (bet 23 January and 31st March)

    Birth:
Alt Birth: Bef 1655 Amsterdam, Holland

    Died:
Died between 23rd January and 31st March

Willem married Trijntje HARMENSZ about 1694. Trijntje and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Trijntje HARMENSZ and died.

    Notes:

Trijntje Harmens is first recorded living with Willem van Wijk as his wife in the Opgaaf Roll of 1695, and she continues in the Muster and Opgaaf records as his wife until she is recorded as his widow in 1702.
On 31st March 1702 Trijntje Harmensz: is named in the Weeskamer minutes as the widow of Willem van Wijk who had first been married to Trijntje Hillebrands. I assume that the marriage took place at Drakenstein - there is no record of it or its date.
In the Opgaaf rolls of 1695 Willem and Trijntje Harmens are recorded with two sons and one daughter. The two sons must be Arij and Gerrit, sons of the first wife so the daughter must belong to Trijntje Hermansz: and is possibly Anna van Wijk, suggesting that Willem and Trijntje Harmensz must have been together since 1694 and, pending further evidence, I shall assume the marriage took place then.
By 1700 (Opgaaf roll) they have two sons and two daughters, suggesting that Anna had been born by then, and in 1702 they are listed with 3 sons and 2 daughters, giving a possible birth date for Willem.
The couple are recorded in all these records as living in Drakenstein. There are no records of the baptism of any of children of this couple in any of the Cape baptismal registers of the period, except possibly one in the Drakenstein Church Records. The Drakenstein baptisms which would have covered this period are known to be in large part lost or defective.

    Notes:

    Married:
They first appear as a couple in the opgaaf returns of 1695, apparently already with a child. The marriage is assumed to have taken place at Drakenstein.

    Children:
    1. Anna VAN WIJK died between 1725 and 1737 in Cape, South Africa.
    2. 1. Maria VAN WIJK was born about 1696 in Cape, South Africa; died on 25 Feb 1773 in Drakenstein, Cape, South Africa(Paarl).
    3. Willem VAN WIJK, a2b6 was born in in Cape, South Africa; was christened on 19 Jan 1698; died about Jan 1756 in Cape, South Africa.
