Robert Robberts Brand was born in about 1670 in Christiana, (now Oslo) in Norway. It is not known when he actually came to the Cape but the first official entry we have on him is his marriage.
He married Cornelia Slabbert in Cape Town on 21 November 1700. She was 15 years of age at the time of their wedding. Cornelia was born about 1685 and baptised on 29 April 1685 in Meliskerk, (Zeeland – which is a Dutch province). The big island in the south, just before Belgium), Netherlands. It is known that her father Floris Slabbert, together with his wife and children arrived in the Cape in 1699 on the ship Sion. Cornelia died before 1720. It would appear that they had one child, Elsie Sophia Brand who was born in about 1715 and baptised on the 10 March 1714/15.
Robbert Robberts Brand then went on to marry Anna Willemse on the 14 April 1720, who was the widow of Harmen Franke, q.v. Vgl. Joachim Ernst Wepener. Their first child Pieter Robbert was born out of wedlock (or was the child of his previous wife).
