Pieter married Adriaentje GABRIELSZ on 9 Jul 1683 in Cape Town, Cape, South Africa. Adriaentje (daughter of Cornelis CLAASZ, a3 and Catharina VAN BENGALEN, daughter of Gabriel NN and Catharina VAN BENGALEN) was born in in Cape Town, Cape, South Africa; was christened on 13 Nov 1662 in Cape Town, Cape, South Africa; died in in Cape, South Africa. 2. 3.  Adriaentje GABRIELSZ was born in in Cape Town, Cape, South Africa; was christened on 13 Nov 1662 in Cape Town, Cape, South Africa (daughter of Cornelis CLAASZ, a3 and Catharina VAN BENGALEN, daughter of Gabriel NN and Catharina VAN BENGALEN); died in in Cape, South Africa.

    Notes:

    Van die Kaap.

She was the stephdaughter of Kees de Boer.
Sy was gedoop in Kaapstad 13 November 1662.

She was born in slavery and illegitimate, according to Mansell Upham, 'freed from her mother and legitimised in terms of her mother's marriage to her stepfather, Cornelis CLAESZ ... alias Kees DE BOER on 15 March 1676'.

In Huweliksregister na verwys as Stiefdogter Van Kees De Boer (a.k.a. Cornelis Claasen?)

!Birth: RGN Mare 1.2, RTJ Lombard Catharina van Malabar had a child, with most probably a European father, this child was known as:
*Adriaentje Cornelis baptised 13 November 1667, partner Hendrik Speldenberg, XX 9 July 1683 Pieter Gerritse (Boshouwer), XXX 12 Feb 1701 Coert Helm

She was identified as the voordogter of Catharina, the wife of Cornelis Claasz (Kees de Boer) by Mansell Upham in his excellent article, The Soetkoek Syndrome, based on the evidence of her marriage entry in the Cape Town register.
(Mansell Upham, The soetkoek syndrome, in Capensis 2/2001, pages 27-30).

I have assumed that the child with Hendrick Speldenbergh was hers, since Elsie appears later in time in connection with this family (see below). Rather circular reasoning, but there it is!

She also appears as a baptismal witness for her granddaughter Ariaantie, child of her daughter Elsie Speldenbergh, in 1702. The other witness is Robbert Jansen, husband of her half sister Catharina Cornelisse.

In addition, her daughter, Elsie Speldenbergh, appears as a baptismal witness at a number of the baptisms of her cousins, children of Adriaantje Gabriels' half sisters, the children of Kees de Boer and Catharina his wife.

In 1719 an enquiry found her poor and unable to pay her debt of 540 gulden, incurred by her husband Pieter Gerritsz. (source: TANAP: Cape Resolutions, C51, pages 53-56)

Daar word geen vrou by hom gemeld nie.

    Beste Mike
was Arriaanjie se pa.......?
    Mansell, enige gedagtes ?

    Groete
    Michael

Cathryn van Malabaar was a slave of Maria Verburgh, part op of the household of Zacharias Wagenaer until she was sold on 11 August 1665 to Cornelis van Quaelbergen. Schoeman p 281 states that van Quaelbergen bought a piece of land next to the Company Garden, this property was known as Concordia, it had a house, 78 sheep and some slaves. The slaves of Quaelbergen thus must have been housed here, and there must have been other slaves who were the domestic servants. Lorna Newcomb pointed out that there were the following persons at the Cape at the time with the said name: Gabriel Slangsz van Elsenen and Gabriel Gabrielsz van Stockholm (both sentenced for crimes in 1668). Did either of these folks work or had contact with Cornelis van Quaelbergen.

    1. 3. Adriaentje GABRIELSZ was born in in Cape Town, Cape, South Africa; was christened on 13 Nov 1662 in Cape Town, Cape, South Africa; died in in Cape, South Africa.
