    Kitty van der Linde (born Greeff) told me that after "Ouma Grietjie" died they found papers that identified her as 'von Gerwel', but that she had always said that her maiden name was Gerber. I suspect that the deceased woman may have had documents showing that the family was descended from von Gerwel and that the family name had changed to Gerber, which is, quite possibly, more likely.
