In haar sewentigs het sy op Unisa verder gestudeer, ook in Maatskaplike werk en berading.Kitty wrote two books, 'Sonskyn op my Pad' and "Suid van Tobruk". The latter is a work of fiction, and she told me herself that while the characters are based on the members of her family, there was, in fact, no extra-marital child. Ben Junior was a purely fictional child. The main Characters in 'Suid van Tobruk' are:

She also tod me that the farm Langvlei was where they actually lived, and that it was where 'Island Lake' is today. The farm was between George and Knysna, and one travelled by train through Wilderness, through Fairy Knowe to 'the siding' (in the book), which was Duiwerivier siding. She could not remember the name of the river that Pieter went to dig open in the book, except that it was not the Duiwerivier.
