    From Blois, came to the Cape as French Hugenot in 1688 on the "Voorschoten". He was a wagon maker by trade but in 1692 he obtained the farm "Rust-en-Werk" which was transported into his name on 18.8.1694. In 1712 he bought the farm "De Veerkijker" in Wavern.

    Bruwer Estienne Bruere gebore omstreeks 1665, van Blois, Franse Hugenoot wat in 1688 met die Voorshooten in SA aangekom het, was 'n wamaker en 23 jaar oud. Hy het in die Kaap getrou in 1690 met Esther de Ruelle (dogter van Daniel de Ruelle en Anna Goudalleen weer op 19/2/1702 in Stellenbosch met Susanna (Anna) du Puys van Amsterdam, d/v Jean. Hy was gevestig te Rust-en-werk (1694), en later De Uitkyk, Daljosafat, en De Verrekyker, Tulbagh (1712). Hy het 2 seuns en 5 dogters gehad - almal uit sy tweede huwelik.

Verkeerd!Estienne het saam met sy susterskind Philippe Fouche vanaf die Loirevallei in Frankryk gevlug na die Nederlande en vandaar op 31/12/1687 uitgevaar op die Voorschooten na die Kaap de Goede Hoop (die Voorschooten het by Saldanha gestrand en die Hugenote is
    vandaar per die Jupiter na Tafelbaai gebring).

    Estienne was the progenitor (stamvader) of the Bruwer family in South Africa. He was a French Huguenot who arrived in the Cape on board the ship "Voorshooten" in 1688 as a 23-year old wagon-maker.
    He settled on the farm "Rust-en-werk" in 1692 - the farm was transferred into his name on 18 Aug 1694. He later had the farm "De Uitkyk" in Daljosafat. In 1712 he bought the farm "De Verrekyker" in Tulbagh.
